If you love it, fave it baby!

Sometimes I....

Journal Entry: Sat Jul 19, 2008, 10:46 PM
..wish I had the patience to do this kind of perfection:

Some Facts about my approach to art

1. I do not like to paint men. I'm not a lesbian.. I just find women to be more shapely and creative with their body. Men are very straight up and down.. I rarely find a ref photo that shows a man in an unusual or "sensually pleasing" [in the visual sense] pose... i dunno.. i'm hunting. Its mostly the same with Photomanipulations. But my vincent manips are an exception to this rule :)

2. I am a messy artist. I like to see the strokes, but at the same time, i envy those artists who can smooth our their portraits to a flawless end. I'm still working on that part, because i want to perfect my technique... one daaaay!

3. I love scenery. Though sometimes i lack a decent background for my subjects, i really do think about how i might make it look more moving or effective with a beautiful background to finish off my foreground peeps.

4. More than any other kind of paintings, i LOVE to have people essentially in my picture. I'm just drawn to the idea of a beautiful princess or some kind of being.. be in the picture to create a scene of some kind. perhaps there is a couple and they are in love, or maybe it is a woman who is lonely - or insanely happy.. so many ideas in my head - its just a matter of getting them out.. but yes.. my item of choice will always be a figure first.. scenery later. [you should see my stock folder! ITS FULL OF PEOPLE!]

hmm.. well thats all i wanted to say.

I dunno why i was lead to tell you all this.. but.. hmm.. let that be a lesson to you for not asking me before lol

got a question? :P ask away.

Sometimes I don't think its necessarily about the patience, its finding the time and energy. I'm finding it hard to get everything done in the amount of time I have. I can imagine its harder for you Jo, as you have an extra person to care for. I don't.

I think your art is pretty damn good regardless.

Real integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that nobody's going to know whether you did it or not.
I get to a point when im painting where i try and try and in the end i just think frag it; its not going to get any better. So i save and close down. Its not the patience that i lack; it's the frustration thats in abundance.

go to hell... in style
[`mirrorkills]
agreed. but frustration and patience go hand in hand, do they not?

aww thanks sarah :)

even so.. i dont spend every waking minute watching my son [the good thing about living with parents for now.....] plus he is very independant now too which rocks. it gives me more time to do things i enjoy. but regardless i still struggle.

It's sorta funny because I doubt those artists would say that their own work is anywhere near perfect. As you learn more about art, you begin to realise just how much more there is to learn. Once you start thinking you're learning it all, you begin to slide backwards. To consider your work perfect is a very short-term consideration. It's soon replaced by errors and disproportions that nag and prod and beg to be improved upon. I think my point is that you have to enjoy the process of creating a work of art more than however it feels to gaze upon the finished product. I don't know what I was going to say anymore <_< I was hit by an insatiable urge to type. Sorry that your journal was in the way :D

Every one of us has a beating heart, a pulsing soul, and a thinking mind inside of us and every heart and soul and mind has its limits.

My art
I feel exactly how you do. I'm practicing even right now with making better portraits. I can't do men, and women ARE more interesting. My only problem is that I feel more comfortable doing minority women. I can do errr... non-minority women but for some reason, I don't show the spirit of the reference photo...meaning they usually turn up looking very old and tired. *laughing So I have put away my hundreds of reference photos I normally use and lurk on the sxc.hu looking for reference photos that I normally wouldn't look twice at.

I will be creating a journal soon that has helpful tips, links, and other information that an artist may find useful for job hunting, their portfolio, or whatever. I'll also have to check that favorite links journal of mine.

sounds like a plan. mind you, i've made a fresh decision not to work towards getting into the illustration industry now.. i just dont like the atmosphere at college.. its not at all what i would rather enjoy.

i think i'll stick to doing what i like when i like.. if that makes sense... i hope it does lol.

oh i know this.. to me, however.. their work is what would be ideal for what i'm reaching out to. the problem is.. the best peice i've done - painting/airbrushing-wise.. is my one with rinoa and squall that i always have featured on my userpage. its there to remind me that i can actually DO that..lol because i've done it once before.. its just abnout me getting up the patience and determination to do it :) only this time with a legible background. you've mastered your talent.. - well in my eyes you have.. you can do backgrounds AND figures without a sense of hassle. to me its very brain-cell-killing.
;)

*laughing I understand what you're saying. I'm really not labeled into any sort of genre. If that was the case, I'd be an abstract artist because that's what I like doing best. Right now, more folks are asking for portraits of people instead of illustrations. I'm trying to be as well rounded as I can be.

I think most folks label me as a graphic artist...
